ACT State Championships

Good Shepherd Cheerleading will compete at the 2014 ACT State Championships run by the Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation (AASCF). The event will include squads from Canberra, Goulburn and Sydney.

The ACT State Championships are being held at the AIS Arena from 10.00am through to 7.45pm on Sunday 31 August.

This is the biggest event we have had in the ACT this year.  Please read your Comp Guide carefully.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT YOU ARE NOT LATE TO YOUR MEETING TIMES AS THE COMPETITION (INCLUDING WARMUP TIMES) WILL NOT WAIT FOR ANYBODY.

Make-up for each team is as follows:
8.45am: Titanium/Scholastic  (meet outside the front door of AIS)
9.15am: Mini Stars (meet inside the foyer at AIS)
9.30am: Teeny Tiny’s (meet inside the foyer at AIS)
9.45am: Rising Stars and Juniors (meet inside the foyer at AIS)

Having cheerleaders stay with their team managers from the moment they arrive until after the presentations is ESSENTIAL at this competition. Children leave their parents at make-up time and stay with their team.  They will be returned to parents after their final performance.

Location of tumbling workshop

See post below with details of workshop.

Location: To be held at Sirens Cove, Unit 1E, 5 Pelle Street, Mitchell

Click this link for location details.

Tumbling workshop

Dear Parents

As part of our commitment to skilling our cheerleaders we try to run a couple of workshops each year over and above the normal Good Shepherd Cheer training. It's important to us that our cheerleaders get the opportunity to work with other coaches who can provide them with extra skills and different training techniques.

The first of these workshops for 2014 will be held on Saturday 2 August at Sirens Cheerleaders Gym in Mitchell. The focus is tumbling.

Times are:
12.30-1.45 - Our youth and juniors (years 3, 4, 5 and 6)
2.00-3.15 - Our tiny's and minis (years K, 1 and 2)

This training is not compulsory - it is just an extra bonus for those who are interested.  There is no extra cost for this workshop; it's all covered in your fees.

We apologise now if this timing conflicts with your other family activities.  Timing had to fit in with Sirens gym availability and coaches training schedules.

Please RSVP to your team manager by Wednesday 30 July so that we can let Sirens know how many of their coaches are needed.

Note: Outside shoes cannot be worn in the Sirens gym.  Please BRING YOUR CHEER SHOES with you and put them on once you get inside the building.

How to do hair for competition

Good Shepherd competition hair for girls is a nice tight pony high pony tail with all hair gelled or sprayed back off face.

The best way to do it is to brush all the hair back and secure at the highest point of the back of the head in a strong hair band the same colour as the child's hair.

Use gel, mousse or hairspray to keep hair pulled back neatly from face.

If your child has a short fringe they can keep it down.

If your child has a long fringe we need to pin it back off the face to ensure no hair in eyes.

If your child has shorter hair then pull as much as you can back off the face and secure with hair tie.

The Good Shepherd bow should be put on last and is only used as a decoration (do not use it as the primary band for securing the hair as this will decrease the life span of your bow).  The bow sits up on the head with the "ribbon" lengths at the bottom and the bow at the top. The bow faces towards the front (not towards the back)

Good Shepherd competition hair for boys is some sort of cool spike, sharks fin or side sweep.  The main aim for boys is to get hair off the face and spray it back so that hair does not end up in eyes.

Thank you to our lovely cheer models India and Rory.

Photos

We have started a new photo page to share some pictures at training.

Click here to see  pictures of the Mini Stars.

Photos of our other teams will come over the next few weeks.

Spreading the cheer

We'd like to give a big shout-out to our Year 6 cheerleaders who recently took their roles of "cheer" "leaders" beyond the competition floor last week by preparing a care package for a sick child.  On behalf of the entire squad our Juniors put together a bundle of cards, motivational messages, cheer bows, a set of poms and a book for fellow Good Shepherd student Jasmine who is currently in Sydney being treated for leukaemia.
Thank you Juniors for sharing your cheer spirit.

Uniform Orders Due WEEK 8

It's time to order your uniforms!

Uniforms must be ordered by the end of Week 8, Term 1.

Order your uniform with Savvy in Mitchell.

If you are new to Good Shepherd Cheer you will need to organise a uniform ASAP.
If you are returning to Good Shepherd Cheer, now is the best time to try on your uniform to ensure it still fits.

ALL cheerleaders must have the Good Shepherd Cheerleading uniform in order to compete and participate in our cheer events.

Uniforms are for competition and performances only
(they are not worn at training).

Our uniforms have been designed in Australia but are made overseas. In order to get our uniforms in in time for our June competition you must have placed your order with Savvy by the end of Week 8 of Term One.

There is ONLY ONE UNIFORM ORDER each year.

While Savvy may have some stock on the shelves it is minimal and costs more than uniforms placed in the week 8 order.

Welcome to 2014

Hello Parents

Welcome to the 2014 cheer year.

By now you would have all registered your cheerleaders.  We have 100 cheerleaders again this year which is wonderful!

Please note:
Registrations are now CLOSED

Our Minis team (year 1 and 2) and Youth team (years 3, 4 and 5) are both over capacity right now, so we are not accepting any more registrations for these teams. However our Kindy and Year 6 teams are still open for the next two weeks.

We will post the list of our team managers, coaches, assistant coaches and parent helpers soon so that you can keep in touch with us throughout the year.

As usual your team manager will send out emails each week with updates, news, requirements, competition information etc.  Please keep an eye on this Parent's Page as well so that you are fully up to date with what is going on.

Don't forget to put the competition dates in your diary. If you are a Good Shepherd Cheerleader you must attend competitions.
